British luxury carmaker Jaguar has unveiled its highly anticipated Type 00 concept car, marking a striking new direction for the iconic brand. The electric vehicle, introduced at Miami Art Week, is the first visual representation of Jaguar’s reinvention following a rebranding initiative that has stirred considerable debate. In a statement released on Tuesday, Jaguar described the Type 00 as “an unmistakable, unexpected, and dramatic physical manifestation” of its transformation into a fully electric, luxury brand.
The Type 00 concept, with its long bonnet, fastback silhouette, and distinctive 23-inch alloy wheels, blends cutting-edge design with luxury aesthetics. The car is available in two striking colors: Miami Pink, inspired by the Art Deco surroundings of its reveal, and London Blue, a nod to the brand’s British roots. Despite its conceptual status, the vehicle has sparked polarized reactions online, with some praising its sleek look while others harshly criticize its design.
A Transformation Beyond the Cars
Jaguar’s evolution goes beyond the Type 00 and its product offerings. The automaker has declared its intention to become an all-electric brand, prioritizing luxury and sustainability. This transformation also includes a major overhaul of the brand’s identity, which has drawn both admiration and controversy. In November, Jaguar introduced a rebranding campaign under the tagline “copy nothing,” featuring a striking promotional video that showcased a diverse cast of models in an abstract, otherworldly landscape. While the ad aimed to reflect the brand’s bold new direction, it was met with skepticism, with some questioning its relevance to automobiles.
Adding to the debate, Jaguar also revealed a new logo—dropping the former capital-letter design in favor of a more modern, minimalist emblem that the company claims celebrates the essence of modernism. The new Leaper logo, which has been a symbol of the brand for decades, will be replaced by a fresh monogram combining the “J” and “R” from the company’s name. Chief creative officer Gerry McGovern emphasized that these changes are meant to recapture the values that made Jaguar beloved, while also positioning the brand to appeal to a contemporary audience.
Looking Ahead: Electric Grand Tourers and Brand Stores
Looking to the future, Jaguar’s first production vehicle under its reimagined identity will be an electric grand tourer, slated for release in late 2025. This vehicle will be built in the UK and is expected to set the tone for the brand’s electric lineup. In addition to launching innovative vehicles, Jaguar is also planning a global expansion of brand-specific showrooms. The first of these will open in the prestigious 8th arrondissement of Paris, marking a significant step in the company’s push to reshape its retail presence.
As Jaguar moves toward an electric-only future, its bold new designs and ambitious plans reflect a company at the crossroads of tradition and transformation. While its rebranding efforts have sparked debate, the Type 00 concept car represents a daring vision for the future of luxury electric vehicles.
